While hiking in the Lost Maples State Park, Anastasia came across this landscape and immediately knew that it will be the subject of her debut painting. This tree had the appearance of burning, especially when juxtapositioned against the greenery. This painting was created in May 2022, during a very upsetting time for the artist: Roe vs. Wade was on the verge of being overturned, Environmental Scientists were protesting the lack of action from the government, and Wynn Bruce even set himself on fire due to lack of attention from the media and the public on the environmental protests. Anastasia wanted to capture her anger and frustration over the powerlessness of this period. This painting is a critique of our society: the viewer can't help but admire the beauty of the painting, while the main object is imploding.
